1973 Oettinger Beetle 1303

Last month I’ve visited the Volkswagen museum in Wolfsburg and after looking at similar VW Bugs for 20 minutes I spotted this monster.

It’s claimed to be the widest VW Käfer ever built in Europe (I guess americans have some weird builds) wearing a 2,2m body kit. If my German isn’t completely off, this Beetle is fitted with 345/35 wheels at the back and 225 in front.

2.2L Engine is from a Porsche 911, developing 255 horsepower. Body work is obviously custom made by Oettinger. The 1973 Beetle 1303 chassis is heavily reinforced in order to come with the power.

And yes, it’s air-cooled.
