  • HGK Drift Challenge 2018

Welcome to the Formula D round in Riga.. wait, no.. it’s the HGK Drift Challenge 2018. We’re all familiar with HGK Motorsport and their insane cars, so already for the third year they make their own cozy event. Mostly their drift customers are invited as well as few Formula D guys. This time frenemies Matt Field and Odi Bakchis got acquainted with the fierce Bikernieki circuit. Many agree that after Daigo Saito it was Kristaps Bluss who brought another big change to how Formula D cars are built. Carbon kevlar body panels are becoming the new norm for the sport…

  • Baltic Drift Championship // Riga / 2018

After long winter rest I find myself at a familiar track – Bikernieki circuit in Riga. It’s a fresh tradition to start the Baltic championship at this infamous track. Eline Berke does a great job, always bringing full house of spectators and more than 100 drivers. But don’t get your hopes up, most of the drivers are pro-am or street league. Only 21 or 22 drivers were fighting for top honours, and that is from 3 baltic countries. Why is that? Well, for sure few teams didn’t manage to finish the car yet, few guys may be interested only in…

  • HGK Drift Challenge 2017

HGK Motorsport with Kristaps Bluss in particular made the best drift showcase event there is. Beautiful sunny day, action from the early morning and unforgettable battles. Exclusively for the blog I went a bit more behind the scenes/behind the backs/behind the track to show you some portraits, snaps and outtakes. Sadly I couldn’t take more pictures of Dennis Häggblom’s S2000, since he made a mistake in Top 32 and he took the role of spectator. S2000 is sicker than it ever was, proudly wearing that new carbon body. Composite materials was the unofficial theme of the event – three HGK…

  • Baltic Drift Championship 2017 // Riga

First event of the season is always special: everybody worked hard during winter and now drivers can test their cars and see what competition has to offer. For fans it’s also exciting: they get to see what drivers were building during the off-season, see new names in the drivers’ list, especially since some teams like to sit low and don’t post a lot of updates on Social Media. I’m glad to see that Baltic Drift Championship finally took a proper shape with about ten drivers representing each country, hoping that all of them will keep the momentum and visit the…

  • GUEST POST // REMI MÕNGELIUS / DRIFTING VOLVOS ON LATVIAN ICE

Guest post author: Remi Mõngelius // Facebook / Instagram Here’s a short story from early January of 2016. It’s 10 pm on a Saturday night when i get a phone call from Henri Puhmas: ”Yo, i’m taking the Volvo barge drifting in Latvia tomorrow, wanna tag along?” Promises of Volvos, drifting and a guarantee of smelling like Diesel and Oil by the end of the day.. Who could turn down such an offer? Next day, I pulled myself together at 4 AM and we started driving at 5. The serene still asleep world felt surreal and was quite a sight to see…

  • HGK Drift Challenge 2016

Latvian drift car builders HGK Motorsport definitely gained additional respect over this weekend. Not only they brought Formula D drivers (Ryan Tuerck, Chelsea Denofa and Matt Powers) to race at Bikernieki circuit, they also made killer configuration to the circuit itself. It seems that all available HGK cars were in action, Sergey Kabargin even brought his 1000kg Corvette to Europe for the first time. Ryan Tuerck got the E46 Kit Car that he drove back in 2013 when he visited for the first time. Chelsea Denofa was behind the wheel HGK’s fresh built – golden E92. Matt Powers, being a…

  • Drift Allstars Latvia // Bikernieki / Riga 2016

Drift All-stars returns to the world famous Bickernicki Circuit located within the heart of Riga the capital of Latvia for the fourth consecutive season. Now considered a classic on the tour the Latvian fans really embrace this event as one of the Motorsport highlights in Latvia. Following on from his top podium placing in Estonia the week before, Falken Motorsport driver and reigning champion James ‘The Machine’ Deane was unstoppable in competition, first locking down P1 in qualifying before mercilessly overcoming anyone who stepped in his way during the battles, and taking the win once again. 1. James Deane –…

  • Baltic Drift Cup 2016 // Round 1 / Riga

After a long winter period the Baltic Drift Cup is back and it’s stronger than ever. First round was held in Riga on the famous drift “hub” – Bikernieki, but not where you think.. This time the classical high-speed course was ditched in favour of a flowing altitude-changing forest track that is called “Witch Kettle”. 39 drifters from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania tried to tame this beast of a track. Blind corners were proving bravery of each and everyone and it showed: drivers with fewer practice took a more comfortable and safe trajectory. As always, new season brought new cars,…

  • NEZ DRIFT // ESTONIA / 2015

North European Drift championship. Few years ago it was most anticipated event in our parts of the world. Now it seems that it has grown into Baltic championship where few Scandinavians are competing for fun. Still almost 40 competitors arrived to put on a show. Estonians were in good form and almost all qualified well. Latvians were the main competitors. 2. Eduard Vahemets made a guest appearance with his Mustang. 3. Juha Pöytälaakso brought his E92 smoke machine. 4. Max Power! 5. Martin Vaga was showing strong runs all day. 6. Weather was very hot, many teams were double checking the cars…

  • ESTONIAN PRO-DRIFT CHAMPIONSHIP 2014

In 2014 Estonian Drift Association performed the biggest job yet. Two events were held in Tallinn and every location was new to everybody. Drivers worked on the cars and appearance pretty well and already in May ’14 we witnessed new pro-drivers, new never-seen-before cars and sponsors. Team Smokehunters’ fleet consisted of a well known BMW 2002 and a completely new Ford Mustang with a BMW “inside”. Their main rival, both on the track and on the web (fight for fans on facebook is very consistent), Team Ghost got a big sponsor and was looking strong. Team NRR ditched the E30…
