  • Baltic Drift Championship 2017 // Riga

First event of the season is always special: everybody worked hard during winter and now drivers can test their cars and see what competition has to offer. For fans it’s also exciting: they get to see what drivers were building during the off-season, see new names in the drivers’ list, especially since some teams like to sit low and don’t post a lot of updates on Social Media. I’m glad to see that Baltic Drift Championship finally took a proper shape with about ten drivers representing each country, hoping that all of them will keep the momentum and visit the…

  • Formula D // Wall Speedway / General Thoughts

I was dreaming to come and photograph Formula D for quite some years and 2016 was the year for me. FD at Wall Speedway neatly fitted to my holidays in New York. I jumped into a rental and drove those 100 miles to New Jersey state jumping few road tolls on the way (why nobody warns that there maybe no one in the booth and that only exact coins are accepted?) I’m a bit spoiled with FD drivers in general, meeting and seeing half of them in action on different European circuits, but when it all comes together – it’s…

  • GUEST POST // REMI MÕNGELIUS / DRIFTING VOLVOS ON LATVIAN ICE

Guest post author: Remi Mõngelius // Facebook / Instagram Here’s a short story from early January of 2016. It’s 10 pm on a Saturday night when i get a phone call from Henri Puhmas: ”Yo, i’m taking the Volvo barge drifting in Latvia tomorrow, wanna tag along?” Promises of Volvos, drifting and a guarantee of smelling like Diesel and Oil by the end of the day.. Who could turn down such an offer? Next day, I pulled myself together at 4 AM and we started driving at 5. The serene still asleep world felt surreal and was quite a sight to see…

  • HGK Drift Challenge 2016

Latvian drift car builders HGK Motorsport definitely gained additional respect over this weekend. Not only they brought Formula D drivers (Ryan Tuerck, Chelsea Denofa and Matt Powers) to race at Bikernieki circuit, they also made killer configuration to the circuit itself. It seems that all available HGK cars were in action, Sergey Kabargin even brought his 1000kg Corvette to Europe for the first time. Ryan Tuerck got the E46 Kit Car that he drove back in 2013 when he visited for the first time. Chelsea Denofa was behind the wheel HGK’s fresh built – golden E92. Matt Powers, being a…

  • Drift Allstars Latvia // Bikernieki / Riga 2016

Drift All-stars returns to the world famous Bickernicki Circuit located within the heart of Riga the capital of Latvia for the fourth consecutive season. Now considered a classic on the tour the Latvian fans really embrace this event as one of the Motorsport highlights in Latvia. Following on from his top podium placing in Estonia the week before, Falken Motorsport driver and reigning champion James ‘The Machine’ Deane was unstoppable in competition, first locking down P1 in qualifying before mercilessly overcoming anyone who stepped in his way during the battles, and taking the win once again. 1. James Deane –…

  • Drift Allstars Estonia // 2016

The past weekend Laitse Rally Park near Tallinn, Estonia welcomed the Drift Allstars championship with open arms, as some of the world’s best drift drivers came together for an explosive and unforgettable 2016 Estonian Drift GP. With a whole host of local wild-card drivers wanting to test their mettle against the international Allstars, it looked like it would be the event of the underdog, as several big names fell early on in the event to unseeded local drivers. However, when the smoke settled, Estonian Kristjan Klemets would find himself lining up against two-time Drift Allstars champion James Deane in the…

  • Gatebil Rudskogen // 2016

Just before the current trip to Gatebil I realised that this would be my fifth time at the event. A small anniversary then. So why do I keep coming back? Since I even didn’t like last year’s event that much. Not to mention that I’m getting more and more introverted with age, so loud parties and 40 000 crowds are usually a no-no to me. Heck, I even bought a pair of noise cancelling headphones recently, just to keep the outside world a bit more away. I can’t really explain it, but every time the dates for next year’s main…

  • Crac: can he kick it?

Another Estonian drift season, eighth if I’m not mistaking, started recently. First round was held in Latvia and already there Team Ghost showed that they mean business this year. Jarmo Luht, team-mate to Kristjan “Crac” Klemets got to the second step of the podium and now it was Crac’s time to shine. Kristjan qualified 3rd, but Jarmo did even better and got the top place: both drivers had their aim on the target In Top 16 Klemets was driving against Rait Lember and luck turned its back on the BMW driver A tough Top 8 was expected, since Kristian would go…

  • Baltic Drift Cup 2016 // Round 1 / Riga

After a long winter period the Baltic Drift Cup is back and it’s stronger than ever. First round was held in Riga on the famous drift “hub” – Bikernieki, but not where you think.. This time the classical high-speed course was ditched in favour of a flowing altitude-changing forest track that is called “Witch Kettle”. 39 drifters from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania tried to tame this beast of a track. Blind corners were proving bravery of each and everyone and it showed: drivers with fewer practice took a more comfortable and safe trajectory. As always, new season brought new cars,…
